Flynn Theatre welcomes new Executive Director

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

I am proud to serve on the Board of Burlington’s Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. The Flynn is one of New England’s premier performing arts centers. It is also an architectural gem, a beautifully refurbished  art Deco theater which was awarded with an Outstanding Historic American Theatre Award in 2007.

This year, The Flynn welcomed a new Executive Director, John Killacky. John formerly managed the Arts and Culture Program for the San Francisco Foundation. He is a passionate promoter of arts & culture as essential ingredients to healthy, thriving communities. John  is off and running- I just came from our monthly board meeting and he is pushing all of us to  “think outside the box” and be creative. Whether it is with programming, fund-raising,  committee structure’s  or new ideas for development, John is bringing in fresh ideas, new energy and pushing all of us to reach for the stars!

The Flynn is lucky to have him!

“This Old House” features Burlington, VT Hill Section Home

Monday, November 8th, 2010

In the online edition of “This Old House” they do a running article on ‘Best Old House Neighborhoods’. Click here to see an article which features a Burlington hill section house I sold a few years ago. The owners brought it back to its original glory, and the producers from “This Old House” picked up on it. Just another example of the beautiful, tastefully renovated homes you can find in Burlington’s Hill Section!

Living in Burlington, VT

Monday, October 18th, 2010

As a longtime resident in the hill section of Burlington, I enjoy the convenience and beauty of this historic  neighborhood that is perched on the hill next to UVM and Champlain College. Minutes from the Burlington airport and the interstate, yet walking distance to the shores of  Lake Champlain where you will find the Burlington Boat House, the bike path and the expansive waterfront park. We can walk downtown to enjoy the Flynn Performing Arts Center, or take in a movie, or enjoy one of over 50 restaurants! Saturday mornings, the Farmers market is a must! As a neighbor of Champlain College, I can audit classes, free of charge, as well as enjoy the evening lecture series.

Still, we have easy access to the mountains, with skiing, canoeing, hiking and camping all within an hour- talk about the best of both worlds!  This weekend we took the kids to Stowe for a day of hiking, to enjoy the fall foliage- what a day! All within an hour of home.

If you are thinking of living “in-town” with all the convenience that has to offer, Burlington is the city for you. Voted one of the “Most Walkable Cities”, “Best Places to Raise a Family”, “Tree City USA”, and “Best Places to Retire”.
